How Do Smaller Businesses Compete Against Larger Businesses?
Small businesses can’t outspend, out-tech, or out-market big companies, but they can compete by leveraging speed, agility, and superior service. Vincent Finaldi, a long-time small business owner, explains that big companies struggle with bureaucracy and slow decision-making, while small businesses can adapt quickly, provide personalized service, and be easier to work with. Instead of trying to beat large corporations at their own game, small businesses should focus on their strengths—nimbleness, responsiveness, and customer care. His advice to small business owners: “Keep fighting and play to your strengths.”

Hi. My name is Vincent Finaldi, and in this video, I wanted to answer the question, how does a small business compete against bigger businesses in an industry?
Now, please understand, my vantage point is I’ve been a small business owner for many years. I got brought up in the industry by my father back in 2006. I took over and ran it with my brother and sister, you know, a decade later. So all I know is small business. And all I know is competing with bigger businesses, and we know where we win and where we lose. But to answer the question simply, how does a small business compete with a big business?
Speed, agility, and better service. So you’re not gonna out tech a big company. You’re not gonna out market a big company. You’re not gonna out brand a big company.
That’s ridiculous to think. But what you can do is play to your strengths. Be super nimble, super service-oriented, easy to do business with, easy to talk to, no red tape. So, play to your strengths.
So if you’re a small guy out there, you know, a small fish in a big pond, play to your strengths and don’t try to beat them at their own game. Just do better what they can’t do, which is typically speed, agility, and the ability to adapt quickly. So, with that being said, I’m fond of small businesses.
When I say small, I mean, like, twenty to a hundred-person-sized companies, and do your best, man. Keep fighting.
