Hi. My name is Vincent Finaldi, and I wanna share a personal video on why I believe getting sued is good in business. But don’t get me wrong. I’m not naive. Being in a lawsuit in the moment is terrible financially, and emotionally.
It sucks up resources and it’s draining. I’m not discounting that. But with that being said, in my personal experience, we were sued twice in 2010 and 2012, and I learned more in those two lawsuits than ever before, and we haven’t been in one since, which has now been, twelve years.
The reason is once you’re sued, if you do have flaws in your operations or your people or your technology, you’re gonna change it immediately. You’re gonna start buttoning things up. No more spit and handshake. You’re gonna be more formalized with agreements and contracts.
Third, and most importantly, you get much better at your craft. So if you get sued for your craft, there’s a high probability you’re not that good at it. So what it does is it forces you to be aware of problems before they happen and know really quickly what you’re good at and how to avoid these problems in the future. So while the video getting sued is good, in the moment it stinks.
But in the long run, it’s a very valuable education that I wouldn’t change for anything in the world.
